The 42km double-track line from Dallas Fort Worth Airport (DFW Airport) and Shiloh Road in Plano will connect northern areas of Tarrant, Dallas, and Collin counties along interstate highway 635, one of the most congested road corridors Texas.

The project is being delivered by a joint venture of Archer Western Construction and Herzog Contracting under a $US 783m design-build contract awarded by Dart in December 2018.

Jacobs was appointed principal design engineer for the project in April and in June Stadler was awarded a contract to supply eight four-car Flirt DMUs, which will operate a half-hourly peak and hourly off peak service when the line opens in 2022.
