The ceremony was attended by the president of Djibouti Mr Ismail Omar Guelleh, together with Ethiopia’s prime minister Mr Hailemariam Desalegn, and Mr Jean-Pierre Loubinoux, director general of the International Union of Railways (UIC).
The railway was inaugurated in Ethiopia on October 3, when trial services began. Commercial operation of passenger and freight services is expected to start early this year.
