The work comprised the delivery of two 6.7km parallel single-track tunnels along the Verín - Ourense section of the line.

The first tunnel look 11.5 months to complete with an average excavation rate of 19.4 linear metres per day while the second tunnel took 9.5 months to complete with an excavation rate of 24.32 linear metres per day.

The tunnel was bored using a single-shield Herrenknecht tunnel boring machine and lined using precast segments that are 370mm thick and 1600mm long.
