The aim of the service, which is a joint initiative between Felb and the Shenyang government, is to boost the shipment of freight from northern China and Korea via the Chinese port of Yingkou to Europe. An eastbound service from Hamburg to China is also set to start after the Chinese New Year in 2016.
The train crosses the China-Russia border at Manzhouli/Zabaikalsk and continues to Brest/Malaszewicze, Poland, where it will continue on block trains to Hamburg with the option to dispatch to other terminals in central Europe on request.
The aim is to offer a weekly service which will initially take 16 days and Felb says will be reduced to 14 days "after a few months." It eventually aims to offer a 12-day service and to increase the frequency to two trains per week by adding a Saturday train.
Felb says its latest railfreight service could boost trade with Europe from microelectronics, electrical equipment, metallurgy and textile suppliers located in China's Guangdong, Anhui and Jiangsu provinces.
