MITSUBISHI Electric has delivered the first traction systems for a new fleet of 28 200km/h EMUs to CAF, which is constructing the trains for French National Railways (SNCF).
The Japanese manufacturer is supplying roof-mounted converters and inverters with natural air-cooling systems, and main transformers for the EMUs. Mitsubishi claims to be the first Japanese company to supply such equipment for a European manufacturer.
The CAF trains are due to enter traffic in 2023, and will operate on the Paris - Clermont-Ferrand and Paris - Limoges - Toulouse lines. There is an option for up to 75 trains, including 15 for the Bordeaux - Marseille route.
CAF is building the fleet in Bagnères-de-Bigorre, in southwest France, and Beasain in northern Spain.
