The consortium is made up of MTR Corporation, John Holland, Leighton Contractors, UGL Rail Services, and Plenary Group. Alstom in partnership with UGL Rail is expected to supply the fleet of automatic trains for the project.
The operation, trains and systems contract, which is the largest single component of the NWRL project, includes:
• building eight stations
• supplying a fleet of fully-automatic trains
• building and operating the stabling and maintenance facility at Tallawong Road
• upgrading and converting the railway between Epping to Chatswood for rapid transit operation, and
• operating and maintaining the NWRL.
The NSW government will pay the consortium to run the NWRL and meet customer service contract requirements while it will continue to set and control fares.
The first tunnelling contract for the project was awarded last year, and the project is due to be completed in 2019.
