Tren de la Costa will follow Highway 1, the Peruvian section of the Pan-American Highway, along the Pacific coast from an interchange with the Lima metro at Lurín south of the capital to Chilca, Asia, Pisco and Ica.  

The line will have a maximum speed of 200km/h for passenger trains, with 44km of tunnel around 50km viaduct and a maximum gradient of 2.5%.

The project will be tendered by Peru’s Agency for the Promotion of Private Investment (Proinversión) as 30-year design-build-operate-maintain concession with an estimated value of $US 3.26bn.
