CHILEAN State Railways (EFE) has awarded Indra, Spain, a 10-year contract worth €6.9m to supply, install, configure, test and maintain a multiservice IP/MPLS data transmission network.

The network will cover 550km of lines around Santiago and Concepción providing data transmission for traffic control, remote control of electrification systems, telephone, and CCTV.

Indra will also repair fibre optic cables damaged during the 2010 earthquake.

EFE is planning to extend the IP/MPLS network in two subsequent phases to cover the remainder of its 2035km system.
