During the competitive tender, NS drivers were closely involved in the selection process, testing the equipment offered by the bidders.
KPN has subcontracted Funkwerk, Germany to develop, produce, certify and deliver the devices required for the project within 15 months. Installation is set to begin in mid-2016 and the work will be carried out by NS subsidiary Nedtrain.
One of the main requirements for the project is to minimise interference from public telecommunications networks in line with European Union legislation.
As principal contractor, KPN is responsible for the delivery, maintenance, project management, and staff training.
