Siemens says the laboratory will provide operators and equipment suppliers with the opportunity to trial their systems for mainline and mass transit systems through onsite or remote interoperability tests.
Facilities at the centre consist of both complete core and radio GSM-R infrastructure, and Tetra networks, while the lab also provides access to terminal equipment including a dispatching and voice recording system, and a billing and network management system. In addition an overlaying transmission network is in place providing connections to typical railway applications such as a clock, public announcement, passenger information display, emergency call, and PABX IP telephony systems, as well as CCTV, Wi-Fi, and a Media4Rail infotainment application.
Siemens says it is possible for users to adjust the test environment to suit a particular target configuration project and utilising the facility will provide operators and manufacturers with the opportunity to reduce the cost of testing their technologies and equipment. It will also enables more thorough tests to take place within a much shorter period of time.
