The installation of GSM-R on rolling stock is part of the Danish government's programme to modernise its entire railway signalling network by 2020. GSM-R will provide continuous transmission between control centres and trains on the network as well as enabling railway personnel to communicate with cross-border traffic to and from Sweden and Germany.

The components will be manufactured at Siemens' facility in Poole, Britain, with the rollout set to be completed by the beginning of 2015.
