British Steel says it is a key supplier to Italian Rail Network (RFI) and that the new centre will “grow its footprint in Europe.”

The company already has a significant amount of work in Europe, employing 420 workers at its French rail mill in Hayange while running its manufacturing operation in Scunthorpe, Britain.

“This is a significant investment by British Steel and underlines our commitment to helping customers across Italy improve the performance of their railways,” says Mr Peter Smith, British Steel’s managing director of rail. “The Lecco logistics centre is part of British Steel’s strategy to grow our business in Europe and further enhance our reputation as a supplier of world-class rail products.”
