It comes in response to a Network Rail request to provide longer lengths of rail to speed up installation and reduce disruption to passenger and freight operators.
The first installation of five 216m sections of Zinoco rail has been completed in Inverkeithing Tunnel, near Edinburgh.
British Steel developed Zinoco in response to Network Rail’s need for durable corrosion protection, where it is designed for use in harsh environments, including coastal lines, wet tunnels and level crossings.
“The installation of corrosion resistant rail was part of the track renewal of ballast, sleepers, fastenings components and rail carried out throughout the length of Inverkeithing Tunnel,” says Mr Graham Gilmartin, Babcock international construction manager.
