The two companies hope to offer the system for the High Speed 2 (HS2) high-speed rail project linking London and Birmingham.

Tarmac says it has identified a number of upcoming opportunities for the sale o slab track in Britain. "It s not just HS2 that we are interested in," says Mr Mark Joel, managing director of Tarmac s Building Products division. "There is also Crossrail 2 in London and HS3 in northern England."

Tarmac says its Tallington site adjacent to the East Coast Main Line north of Peterborough is the preferred location for a slab track production facility because it is already connected to the rail network.

Max Bögl has installed slab track on high-speed lines in Germany, Italy and China.
