NR already has three ultrasonic test trains, but says the addition of a fourth will increase the flexibility of the fleet and allow one train to be taken out of service for maintenance.

The project was implemented by NR Engineering and National Delivery Service units on behalf of NR Asset Information, which operates the ultrasonic test trains through a contract with Sperry Rail. Ultrasonic equipment was supplied by Sperry Rail, with rail profiling from KLD Labs and ground penetrating radar from Zetica. Omincom supplied the positioning equipment.
