The link will enable freight trains to run from Rotterdam via the Betuweroute to 's-Hertogenbosch and further south, particularly towards Venlo on the German border.
It is planned to build the link at Meeteren where other links have already been constructed. It is hoped to start construction in 2015, provided there are no delays resulting from planning procedures.
The new link is part of the policy to introduce high-frequency passenger services in the Netherlands, which necessitates rerouting freight trains. It is not known yet how much the link will cost and when planning procedures will start.
