The company has already set up a subsidiary called Rail.One USA which plans to market the sleepers to Class 1 railways. Mr Jochen Riepl, Rail.One's CEO, says about 22 million wooden sleepers are replaced annually by US railways, and he sees a trend towards the use of concrete sleepers as railways carry greater tonnages.
Rail.One to build sleeper factory in USA
GERMAN concrete-sleeper manufacturer Rail.One is to construct a plant in Iowa, United States, at a cost of €15m. The factory is expected to be commissioned by the end of the year and will have an annual capacity of 600,000 sleepers.
