The project will be implemented in three phases, starting with the Koler - Älsbyn section in April, followed by Storblåliden - Koler and Bastuträsk - Träskholm. The project will be completed in October 2017 and Strukton Rail will use high output equipment to renew the rails, sleepers and ballast.

The contract includes an option for the renewal of a further 16km of track.

The line is an important route for freight traffic through Upper Norrland, primarily serving the region's mining and forestry industries. Deteriorating infrastructure has hampered operations on the route in recent years, with speed restrictions and broken rails affecting performance and reducing capacity.
