NORWEGIAN track authority Jernbaneverket has selected Bombardier to deliver its Interflo 450 ETCS Level 2 solution on an 80km section of the Østfoldbanen Østre line in the southeast of Norway from Ski to Sarpsborg.

This is the pilot project in Norway's programme to upgrade the national network's signalling system to ERTMS and it will be operational in 2014. A further strategy for implementation of ERTMS is expected to be included in the 2014 to 2023 National Transport Plan.

Jernbaneverket says it is working closely with other national railway authorities which have experience of implementing ERTMS, including Trafikverket in Sweden with regard to onboard ERTMS equipment.
