BUCHAREST Metro operator Metrorex has selected CAF as its preferred supplier for a fleet of 16 new trains in a deal worth Euros 107.2m. CAF beat off competition from Bombardier, which has already supplied 44 Movia trains to Metrorex.

The city's metro network is currently expanding with construction underway on two projects. Line 4 is being extended northwards from Parc Bazilescu to Straulesti, while a contract was awarded earlier this year for the construction of the initial 6.1km phase of Line 5 from Eroilor to Statia Piata Iancului, which will open in 2014.
