DANISH infrastructure manager Banedanmark has today signed two contracts worth a total of Euros 700m as part of its programme to install ERTMS across the entire 2100km mainline network by 2021.

A consortium of Thales and Balfour Beatty has been awarded a €400m contract to supply and install ETCS Level 2 on around 1200 route-km in Jutland, while Alstom will be responsible for resignalling 770 route-km in Zealand, Fyn, and Lolland-Falster. Alstom's contract is worth Euros 300m and includes the pilot line (Roskilde - Køge - Næstved) which will be commissioned by 2017.

The signing of these two contracts means only the onboard systems contract has still to be concluded. The Euros 252m contract to resignal the 170km Copenhagen S-Train network with communications-based train control was awarded to Siemens.
