The project is beginning at the northern end of the line, focussing

This will leave the two lines between Hof and Nuremberg as the only
unelectrified sections of the 390km Saxony - Franconia Line. The
Bavarian government is seeking federal funding to support the extension
of catenary through Marktredwitz and Bayreuth, and for the short link
between Marktredwitz and Cheb in the Czech Republic.
