On-Demand Webinar: Railways in the Cognitive Era

View the on-demand webinar "Railways in the Cognitive Era" to learn about cognitive computing for railways. View Now »

Data is everywhere: structured and unstructured data is generated from railway customers, mobile devices, equipment, sensors, and transactions.

Deriving actionable insights from this data with scale and agility is now possible with cognitive analytics systems. Natural language processing and machine learning enable railways to act in real-time to improve operations.

Cognitive systems recommend courses of action using confidence levels, and continually learn, adapt, and improve these recommendations.

White Paper: Achieving compliance with EN 50128

PRQA White PaperThis white paper discusses the functional safety standard EN 50128:2011 which applies to the software for railway control and protection systems. First the paper explores how EN 50128 compares with other process standards, and then it looks specifically at how PRQA’s tools can be deployed to help to comply with EN 50128.

Electronic equipment is increasingly being used in safety critical environments, and the associated software is becoming more and more complex. Exhaustive testing to ensure that there is no situation in which a failure could occur is rarely possible so systems must be designed in such a way to prevent failure or ensure controlled behaviour if failures arise.

The introduction of standards has been an important factor in ensuring the development of robust software in safety critical applications. The international standard EN 50128 mandates the use of improved development processes, including the use of coding standards to encourage further gains in software quality.

Today's savvy travelers increasingly expect railways to understand their preferences and provide personalized offers, advice, and guidance for their door-to-door journeys. Empowered consumers are pledging their loyalty to railways that provide more information, control, and personalized services. Railways that meet these expectations will attract loyal customers to increase revenue.

We’ll discuss:

  • Creating a dialogue with your customers throughout all phases of their trips: shopping, booking, travel, and post-journey
  • Innovating for both the physical and the digital passenger experience to enhance customer-centricity
