Roderick Smith
Professor Roderick Smith, FREng, ScD, FIMechE, is research professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and chairman Future Rail Research Centre at Imperial College, London. Smith is also an infrastructure commissioner for Wales. He is former chief scientific advisor at Britain’s Department for Transport and former president of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. Smith has extensive experience of high-speed rail systems in many countries, but particularly in Japan for nearly 50 years.
