Uganda has ambitious plans to build a light rail network in its capital Kampala in a bid to reduce crippling road traffic congestion and pollution, reports Shem Oirere.

Kenya Railways expects to complete a master plan, which includes the redevelopment of the existing 149km Nairobi Commuter Rail (NCR) network, within the next nine months. This will pave the way for implementation of a major project that promises to transform public transport in the Kenyan capital. Shem Oirere reports.

THE UGANDAN government has confirmed it is terminating Rift Valley Railways’ (RVR) concession to operate the country's 1918km metre-gauge network because of poor performance.
