AN agreement to introduce face recognition on the Moscow transport network was made on June 4 between the Russian capital’s mayor, Mr Sergei Sobyanin and general director of National Payment Card System, Mr Vladimir Komlev.

The introduction of such technology is part of a plan to combine all methods of payment for all modes of transport in Moscow onto a single mobile app.

The National Payment Card System (which operates the Mir payment system already used in Moscow), will also use its technology to implement the virtual Troika pass so passengers can store their Troika on phones. Troika is the contactless reusable card used to pay for public transport in Moscow, and there are plans to extend its use to other regions.
