Trains will operate at up to 250km/h on the new electrified route, which will shave 6km off the current 29km line between the two cities, saving approximately six minutes and reducing Odense - Aarhus journey times to one hour. The additional route will also substantially increase capacity, enabling operators to offer faster and more frequent services.

Parliament will determine the final alignment with Banedanmark submitting three possible options (pictured). The submission also includes a final Environmental-Impact Assessment report.

The project to develop the alternative alignment on the Horsens - Aarhus line was approved by the previous Danish administration in 2014.
