The government insists that NS should meet all of the costs of the Fyra crisis from its own budget. Dutch minister of finance Mr Jeroen Dijsselbloem, who is the NS shareholder on behalf of the Dutch government, says that in line with the requirements of the Dutch Parliament, NS will not be permitted to cover its losses through increasing fares, reducing service levels, or through financial assistance from the state.

NS has not disclosed how it intends to make the savings.
