The company also recorded a profit in the “tens of millions” of Koruna.

Leo Express says it expects to carry more than 3 million passengers in 2020, with turnover projected to increase to Koruna 1.3bn. The company will focus mainly on expanding train services with the introduction of three new Sirius trains ordered from CRRC in 2016, with an option for up to 30 additional trains. The new trains are currently on test at the Velim test circuit.

“Leo Express is doing well, and the popularity of our comfortable train services is growing,” says Mr Pavel Spilka, who was appointed CEO in January. “This year we will focus on train and feeder bus services. Among other things, this will be aided by our new Sirius trains that we plan to put into operation this year.”

Leo Express is also investing in its five-car Flirt EMUs, including refurbishing coaches and introducing a new economy plus class.

The new class will feature similar seats to business class, giving passengers more space and comfort, and will also feature the business class menu. Leo Express says the main point of difference is a more compact layout with more seats. The class is also not separated from economy class, meaning it will not be as quiet and private as business class. Tickets for economy plus will go on sale from March, with passengers able to use the class with an economy class ticket until then.

Business and premium classes will also undergo minor modifications.
