WABTEC has bought railway friction business Masu, based in New Delhi, India, for $US 34m.

The acquisition allows Wabtec to increase its growth in the brake product area and also strengthens Wabtec’s position in supplying components in the Indian rail market.

Wabtec says the deal has received necessary regulatory approvals.

Mr Lilian Leroux, president of Wabtec’s transit business, says the acquisition meant the company now has friction manufacturing capabilities on every continent. He says this will help reduce operating costs and improve performance.
