Wabtec says that the acquisition will provide it with a robust rail maintenance portfolio in South America, accelerating its strategy to expand into markets outside the US and complementing its existing wagon manufacturing plant at Contagem in Brazil.

Adding Super Metal to the Wabtec portfolio also complements the acquisition of track maintenance equipment supplier Nordco which Wabtec announced in March 2021.

“Super Metal's solutions and equipment for railway maintenance of way have synergy with Wabtec’s Services portfolio,” says Mr Danilo Miyasato, president and regional general manager of Wabtec in Latin America.

“The combination of these solutions will enhance our maintenance portfolio and offer our customers increased safety, productivity and reduced operating costs.”

“This deal highlights a lifetime of work by an entire family and boosts Super Metal's capacity to deliver innovative solutions to the market,” says Super Metal president, Mr Bernardo Zeferino. “We are excited with this new chapter as a Wabtec business.”
