The trains - two for Iberian-gauge and one for standard gauge operation - will be equipped for auscultation, a procedure which analyses the main parameters of the track to establish, maintain and increase the quality, reliability and safety of infrastructure.

The three trains will be fitted with a bi-mode traction system, with a maximum speed of 160km/h under diesel power and 200km/h under electric.

The trains will be equipped with both Asfa Digital and ERTMS signalling systems, GSM-R and Wi-Fi, along with an uninterruptible power supply and a range of diagnostics equipment, including:

  • geometry and dynamics measuring equipment for both track and catenary
  • odometer
  • optical track and catenary inspection equipment
  • deviation measurement equipment
  • visual system
  • gauge measurement, and
  • beacon diagnosis.

The trains will be used for the certification of new lines, along with the maintenance of existing infrastructure.
