BELGIAN National Railways (SNCB) has agreed a €268m order for 98 double-deck 200km/h M7 coaches from Alstom.

These are the latest order from a framework agreement signed with a joint venture involving Bombardier Transportation and Alstom for the supply of up to 1362 coaches in 2015. So far 747 have been ordered across three batches, with Alstom now taking on the full contract following its acquisition of Bombardier.

The coaches can be used either to provide additional capacity in multiple units or as locomotive-hauled stock. They have been certified to operate across Belgium and on cross-border routes to the Netherlands and Luxemburg.

The M7s are manufactured at Alstom’s sites in Bruges, Belgium, and Valenciennes, France. Bodyshell assembly of the trailer vehicles is completed inCrespin, France, whilst Alstom’s centre of excellent in Charleroi, Belgium, supplies the traction system and TBL1+ signalling and ETCS. The bogies are manufactured in Siegen, Germany, for the trailer coaches and in Le Creusot, France, for the driving trailer.
