THE Romanian Railway Reform Authority (ARF) has signed an addendum to an initial contract with Alstom for the delivery of 17 additional Coradia Stream inter-regional EMUs and associated maintenance services over 15 years for a total value of €220m.

The additional trains will supplement the 20 Coradia Stream EMUs ordered in March of this year, bringing the total to 37. It is the first passenger fleet to be supplied by Alstom to Romania, despite the company having had a presence there for 30 years in the electrification and signalling markets.

The maximum speed of the new trains will be 160 km/h. Each train will have six cars, a total capacity of 350 seats and will be 100% low floor to provide easy access for passengers with reduced mobility.

The Coradia Stream EMUs will also be equipped with a digital passenger-counting system. Each train will have four ecological toilets, with one designed for passengers with reduced mobility.
