This batch will consist of 20 bidirectional and seven unidirectional LRVs, which will replace 12 Vevey and nine RBS trams. The other six vehicles will support the extension of Line 9 to Kleinwabern, south of Bern, and the subsequent increase in frequency on this route.

The first LRV will enter service at the beginning of 2023 with the 27th vehicle set to be delivered in the summer of 2025. This initial order is worth SFr 125m ($US 125m) and includes a spare parts package and maintenance tools. Bernmobil will be eligible to exercise additional options in the contract from 2027 onwards. These are likely to support fleet expansion for the proposed Tram Bern Ostermundigen project and other increases in service.

The Tramlink LRVs are 42.5m long and will offer 52 seats and six doors in the bidirectional vehicle and 68 seats and seven doors in the unidirectional tram. The air-conditioned trams are entirely low floor and are equipped with multifunctional areas for wheelchairs, prams and luggage. The trams will feature a special livery design to fit with Bern and Bernmobil and a bright interior design with modern wooden seats. The vehicles will also utilise a brake assist system to avoid collisions and improve safety.

Stadler overcame competition from CAF and Siemens to secure the contract from the tender launched in October 2018. Bernmobil confirmed that Stadler’s offer included lower acquisition and maintenance costs.
