SPANISH manufacturer CAF will build 18 LRVs for Antwerp and four LRVs for Sydney.

The combined value of the two contracts is almost €100m.

The Belgian LRVs will be operated in Antwerp by De Lijn, and follow four previous batches of 24, 24, 23 and 17 LRVs respectively. All are options from a deal signed in October 2017 for a total of 146 LRVs.

Unlike the previous four batches, the latest order will be bi-directional. They will run alongside LRVs ordered in the third and fourth options.

Meanwhile, Transport for New South Wales (TfNSW) has ordered four five-section Urbos 100 LRVs for the Inner West light rail line in Sydney. These will be delivered in early 2023 and join an existing fleet of 12 CAF Urbos LRVs in service since 2014.

These LRVs are 32m-long with a maximum speed of 80km/h.
