The new trains are expected to enter service at the beginning of 2023, creating more attractive and accessible public transport options.

Škoda is the only bidder left in the tender process for the vehicles, and will provide Regiopanther EMUs under the contract, which is yet to be signed.

The new trains will enter service on the Dolní Lhota - Blansko - Brno and Tišnov - Brno - Břeclav lines, which are currently operated by Czech Railways (ČD) class 560 EMUs and ČD class 242 locomotives hauling coaches.

The Czech Republic has received €6.7bn from the EU Cohesion Fund between 2014 and 2020 to improve transport services.
