WMT signed a contract with Vivarail in August 2018 to supply three rebuilt class 230 D-Train multiple units, with number 2300034 now in service on the route between Bletchley and Bedford.
The interior of the trains features fully accessible toilets, several seating options, more space and at-seat USB sockets. The D-Trains are also quieter and more environmentally friendly with automatic engine shutdown at stations. Vivarail says the lightweight aluminium bodyshell also reduces fuel consumption and improves acceleration.
The trains feature a special LNR livery with artwork from local artist, Ms Alisha Miller. The remaining two D-Trains will be introduced on the line in coming weeks, and will be maintained at the Bletchley depot.
“These trains are unrecognisable from their former life on the London Underground and Vivarail have created a modern and comfortable train, ideal for this route,” says LNR customer experience director, Mr Jonny Wiseman.
“This is a very proud day for all at Vivarail and I am delighted to see the first of our trains in passenger service,” says Vivarail CEO, Mr Adrian Shooter. “Our design and engineering work has been focussed on ensuring the Marston Vale trains are of the quality and standard the passengers deserve. I think we’ve achieved that and I look forward to the feedback we’ll receive.”
