Leo Express has also confirmed the new intercity trains will be named ‘Sirius,’ which was chosen from more than 4000 suggestions submitted by passengers.
“Sirius is the brightest star of our night sky and it seemed suitable to use the name of such a bright star for our new train,” says Leo Express CEO, Mr Peter Köhler. “Together with our manufacturer we have developed a new Leo Express train, which is custom-made for our customers. We have based the design, which is owned by Leo Express, on the experience gained from travelling a billion passenger kilometres.”
The train will now go to the VUZ test centre at Velim in the Czech Republic and Köhler says he expects authorisation to be a “swift process.”
Leo Express ordered three trains in 2016 with an option for up to 30 additional trains.
Several Czech design agencies and domestic suppliers were involved in the project and Leo Express says every fifth component was supplied by a Czech firm. The interior specification was developed in consultation with Leo Express passengers.
