The €21m contract is being awarded directly as the new EMUs have to be compatible with GySEV’s existing fleet of five class 4744s, which has been branded Ventus.
These 160km/h dual voltage (15kV/25kV ac) EMUs work in common diagrams with Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) class 4744 Cityjets on lines east of Vienna.
Delivery of the additional trains is due to be completed by the end of 2020.
