MÁV-Start currently uses 263 of the coaches for national and 140 on international services.

The contract includes maintenance for 194 coaches and the full modernisation of 209 coaches, including a complete interior refurbishment, new automatic doors, LED lighting, USB sockets, and a new livery.

“Winning this contract for MÁV-Start is an important step for us, since our clear intention for Dunakeszi is to set up the biggest rail vehicle manufacturing and servicing base for Hungary and Eastern Europe,” says Mr Terence Watson, senior vice president Europe at TMH International.

TMH Hungary, a 50:50 joint venture between TMH International and Hungarian manufacturer Magyar Vagon Zrt (MA-VAG), is currently manufacturing 680 passenger coaches for Egyptian National Railways (ENR) at the facility - a record contract in Hungarian rail manufacturing. The project is part of a wider €1bn contract awarded by ENR to TMH Hungary in 2018 to supply 1300 passenger coaches, for delivery by 2023.
