The first contract for 11 units was signed in August 2017, with a second order for an additional eight trains concluded in December 2018.
MÁV-Start announced its intention to exercise the final option in September 2019, but said at the time that the Forints 100.75bn ($US 340.7m) option would only take effect once funding from both the European Union and the Hungarian national budget was in place.
Under the framework agreement, the final train will be delivered by the end of 2022.
The 155.88m-long, 2.8m-wide and 4.6m-high EMUs will consist of six coaches, with seating for 600 passengers.
The trains will be equipped with four toilets, including one for passengers with reduced mobility, while the multifunctional areas will have space for four wheelchairs, as well as 12 bicycles or five pushchairs.
The new vehicles, which have been designed according to the latest safety standards, will be equipped with EVM and ETCS level 2, allowing a top speed of 160km/h on Hungary’s modernised lines.
Passenger comfort will be enhanced with a passenger information system, spacious and bright interior, air conditioning and free Wi-Fi.
