NETINERA Germany, a subsidiary of Italian State Railways (FS), has issued two tenders for new trains for use by subsidiaries Die Länderbahn, Metronom and Alex, which operate regional contracts in Germany.

The first tender requires the supply of 50 battery electric multiple units (BEMUs) with capacity for 180 seated passengers. The order could be split between different suppliers with the total number of trains required dependent on Netinera’s future success in securing regional contracts. The tender stipulates that the trains must be delivered with an authorisation to place in service before December 2026.

The second order is split into two lots. Lot 1 is an order for up to 25 EMUs with seating capacity for 220 passengers. Lot 2 comprises 15 BEMUs with seating capacity for 105 passengers. The EMUs must be delivered before December 2024 and the BEMUs before December 2026. Again, multiple suppliers can fulfil these orders, the extent of which is reliant on Netinera’s success in upcoming regional tenders.

Netinera says it will require special warranties with regard to the batteries for which it will require maintenance. Netinera will be able to transfer the contract to leasing companies to make the trains available to Netinera subsidiaries. The deadline for bids is April 28 2021.
