LUCERNE Transport Association (VVL) and BLS intend to introduce new Stadler Mika trains in the Lucerne West region from the December 2024 timetable change.

The Mika trains will operate on the Lucerne - Wolhusen - Langnau iE-Bern and the S-Bahn lines S6 and S7. These trains will replace the existing Lötschberger and Nina trains.

BLS had planned to change fleets used in the region from December 2022. However, financial and technical reasons prevented this, combined with operational restrictions at Bern station due to renovation work.

The first Mika trains were delivered to BLS in spring 2021. There are variations of the 100m trains including RegioExpress and S-Bahn type interiors.
