WEST Pomeranian Voivodeship has ordered five diesel-electric hybrid multiple units from Newag for Zlotys 100m ($US 25.89m).

The trains are fitted with four electric motors suppling a combined 1.6MW. They are also fitted with two diesel engines and generators which provide power on non-electrified routes.

The trains can operate at 160km/h on electric traction and 120km/h on diesel. The three-car trains can accommodate 302 passengers, including 150 seated.

This order follows the introduction of two diesel-hybrid trains last summer, at which point an order for five trains was placed.

By exercising this latest option, West Pomeranian Voivodeship has now invested Zlotys 240m on hybrid trains.
