AUSTRIAN Federal Railways (ÖBB) has issued a tender for up to 200 eHybrid shunting locomotives.

The contract could be worth up to €788.6m and it’s planned that the new-build shunting locomotives would replace existing traction as well as being able to offer the last-mile function.

According to the tender document issued on July 5, they will replace the class 1063 and class 1163 locomotives.

Initially the closing date for the tender was July 28, but this has been extended to August 10. The tender states that it’s planned that there will be eight applications for the contract, and that it was hoped the contract could be awarded within five months of the deadline.

No exact number of locomotives is specified, nor is the power. “As it is an ongoing tender process we cannot comment on more detail,” ÖBB spokesman Mr Bernhard Rieder told IRJ.
