AUSTRIAN Federal Railways (ÖBB) has cancelled a tender released in December for up to 100 EMUs, after Alstom argued that the short delivery terms would prevent competition.

ÖBB has instead published a tender for a framework agreement to supply up to 46 single-deck, 160km/h EMUs. The trains will be 100m-long, with options for some 75m-long sets. The tender includes an option for maintenance.

Bids for the eight-year framework agreement must be submitted by February 22 2021.

The order volume matches the 46 Bombardier Talent 3 EMUs that ÖBB has on order for the Tyrol and Vorarlberg regions. Approval and delivery of the first 21 EMUs for Vorarlberg has already been delayed by more than two years, with ÖBB considering cancelling the order.
