TESTING of two four-car Stadler double-deck Kiss EMUs, ordered by DB Regio Nord and a two-car Pesa Elf 2 EU, destined for Czech operator RegioJet, has started at the Velim test centre in the Czech Republic.

DB Regio Nord ordered 18 160km/h 106m-long Kiss EMUs under a €220m contract placed in June 2019. .

The trains will operate Eastern Electric Network services and are expected to enter commercial operation before the end of 2022.

The 53m-long 160km/h Elf 2 EU trains for RegioJet are the export variant of Pesa’s EMU and differ from those operating in Poland. The fleet will operate regional services in the Ústí nad Labem area in the north of the Czech Republic from July 2022. They had been expected to enter service in December, but this was affected by delays to the production process caused by Covid-19. Testing began in Poland in the second half of 2021 before moving to Velim.

The EMUs are able to run on both 3000V dc and 25kV 50Hz ac and are equipped with ETCS Level 2.
