The order is the first for Pesa’s new Elf EU the export variant of the Elf 2 EMU, which has been purchased by several operators in Poland.

Regiojet was selected at the end of 2018 to operate six routes around Ústí nad Labem. These include:

  • Line 072 Ústí nad Labem západ - Štětí
  • Line 073 Děčín - Ústí nad Labem Střekov
  • Line 123 Most - Žatec
  • Line 130 Most - Bílina
  • Line 131 Ústí nad Labem - Most, and
  • Line 134 Teplice v Čechách - Litvínov.

Czech infrastructure manager SŽDC will electrify the 2km line between Louka u Litvínova and Litvínov before the Pesa EMUs enter service.

The 160km/h dual-voltage (3kV dc/ 25kV 16.7Hz ac) trains will be 53m long with an entrance floor height of 550mm above the rail head. The central section of each vehicle between the bogies is low floor and each car will have two sets of double doors.

Each train will be equipped with one wheelchair-accessible toilet, which will be compliant with the TSI for Passengers with Reduced Mobility, as well two ticket vending machines.

Each train will seat 110 passengers and accommodate six bicycles. There will also be a children’s play area and at-seat power sockets.

The fleet will be fitted with ETCS Level 2 equipment supplied by Bombardier.

The order includes a two-year warranty. The fleet will be serviced by Pesa for the first two years with major maintenance taking place at Regiojet’s Prague Zličin depot. The contract includes an option to extend the maintenance period.

Deliveries will take place in the second half of 2021, with the fleet entering commercial service in December 2021.
