The four additional engines will bring the total number of Sri Lanka Railways CRRC multiple units operating with MTU engines to 60.

The agreement follows a strategic partnership agreed between CRRC and Rolls-Royce Power Systems in November 2017, which included a commitment by CRRC to consider MTU engines from Rolls-Royce for its locomotives and diesel trains.

The agreement references China’s Belt & Road Initiative to expand and enhance the connections between Asia, Europe and Africa to improve freight movement.
